Bhanu Tayal, retired as Chairman & Managing Director of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, was at helm of affairs for more than 6 years. He was responsible for turning Konkan Railway into a Profit-making Organisation. He received the “Turn Around Trophy” from BRPSE Chairman in the year 2012.


After completing his Post Graduation in Zoology from Delhi University he joined Indian Forest Service in 1979. He moved to Railways in 1981 as a member of Indian Railway Traffic Service. During the course of his career, spread over 35 years in Indian Railways, he handled many important assignments in Operations, Commercial, Safety and General Departments. He was also Spokesperson for Western Railway while working as Chief Public Relations Officer. He was awarded twice the Efficiency Medals during his working on Western Railway. He moved to Konkan Railway in 2005.


During his tenure as Chairman & Managing Director of Konkan Railway, he motivated his officers & staff to work more and more in Rajbhasha. With the positive outcome of his efforts, Konkan Railway was awarded Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Shield / Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar three years in a row i.e. 2014, 2015, 2016. He received the awards two times from Hon’ble President of India. He always strives for in continuous self-upgrading and learning. He completed his Executive MBA in 2009. He has been a motivator to his staff to upgrade their skills continuously.


Mr. Tayal believes in ‘Inclusive Growth’ of the Society, which motivated him to initiate ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR) activities on Konkan Railway route. From the year 2010 onwards, Konkan Railway under his guidance took the lead and initiative, as a social obligation to undertake various CSR activities viz-a-viz Computer Literacy, Konkan Rail Shiksha Abhiyan, Construction of Toilet blocks in schools along the KR Route, Ecological restoration of the ‘Carambolim lake’ in Goa, Tourist Guide training to Autorickshaw/Taxi drivers, Skill Development, and many more.


Mr. Tayal is keen environmentalist too. He took initiative in installation of compost Plants and Bio-toilets on KR Stations. Konkan Railway was the first to construct bio-toilets at the Railway Stations. He took the initiative for establishment of George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology at Goa and Ramakrishna Hegde Skill Development Centre at Udupi (Karnataka). 


He is a Philatelist, collector of coins and also a keen Photographer. He has participated in many competitions and exhibitions. Now after his retirement from Railways, he has started a new chapter and a passion which he long cherished to fulfill, that is of being a teacher, trainer and a mentor to Youths. He has always believed every individual has a great potential to bloom, if guided properly. He believes in learning should be a fun if we are able to create interest in learner to learn. He trains prospective students who are appearing in various Competitive Exams.

 

Keeping his passion for environment alive after his retirement, he has started an initiative in Waste Management under the name of Eco-Santulan, www.ecosantulan.com.   


He feels in the present digital-world, Blog is a powerful medium to share the rich knowledge base and experience that he has earned past so many years in the fields of Management, Planning, Execution, Administration, Mentoring and so on. Now, he regularly writes blogs on various aspects of Management.


He always sums up his experience as: “It was amazing journey of new learning each day and I wish to continue this journey………….”. 

And the Journey continues…..
